RE: Receiver hitch adaptor

Missy,
The extender cuts the tongue weight capacity down and pull capacity. I have one on my truck and works fine. Don't buy one too long (greater reductions) and remember your normal boat hitch will also make it extend further.

RE: Used campers and their value

Mine's covered by the truck insurance when on the truck and the policy is for when it's hit by a meteorite, sitting in the barn.

RE: Installing AC on a Palomino Bronco B1500??

The PC is about 90#s and will go over a standard 14" vent hatch. The key is your power source. I had a Sunlite PU that a guy put a huge 13.5 btu unit on and ran the power alone the ceiling down to a receptacle he installed in the refer outside box access. That unit was very heavy and you always had to keep a hand on the ceiling when raising and lowering. Otherwise, the lift was too strenuous for the small gear and was a potential strip failure and when lowering, the ceiling would crash down on your head. I guess that's the "extra bracing" - your head.

RE: Where were the truck campers??

3 TC's in the Kiptopeke CG on the eastern shore of VA. Probably a CG record.

TC & Boat Trailer Plug

Has anyone seen an adapter that you can use to plug both the TC and the flat trailer type plug into your truck? Standard big plug on TC and truck. Need a way to run the lights on the trailer while hauling the TC.

RE: Reminder - Check your overall height

I guess GM can now testify that the bolts in it's PU bed have sufficient shear strength.
Hope no one was hurt. Another example of why NOT to have passengers riding in a moving trailer.

RE: Lance back on the truck after Heart Attack!!!

jmcgsd,
I have thanked the Lord for my different perspective on what upsets me. It used to be any little thing would rattle me and usually spin me up. Now, I've learned that most of that turmoil was just my perspective. This part of your life, you can enjoy peace. Peace with yourself. Peace with others. Those close to you will see a difference. They will be thankful as well. So glad that you have recovered, so is your family.
We never know how many days we have. I have decided to rejoice in this one!

RE: Went shopping for a newer truck today, aarrrgg!

You may want to determine what rear end is in the trucks by the vin. I thought that dodge had a 4:10 option on their diesel. If so, the truck could probably crawl over your house, but would take a tank of fuel to do so. I'm just not familiar with dodge and ford, but I'm sure there are folks here that can let you know.
I bought my Chevy used in 03 and the only thing I have replaced is a right front hub. I didn't know there was a problem until a state inspection reveled the worn hub. The front end weight kept the nose on the ground.
Given your options, I would go for the 1 ton truck. When the government puts a ceiling of diesel price, it may qualify you to buy at a lower commercial rate. :R That's my opinion as to what the government will do to keep the economy from spiraling out of control

I have a front receiver and use a regular bike rack. I have a front cargo rack as well. Use one or the other.

Basement on non Basement TC

Has anyone built a basement on a TC? I don't think it would be too difficult to design something to hold the weight on my Angler. Other than raising the clearance (and COG) about 9 inches, any comment on potential problems.

RE: eye to eye turnbuckle opening up on eyes

If you go for chain binder, look at the ratchet type vs. the flip over type. The rachet's are much easier to adjust the tension. I user to carry a small cheater pipe to get more leverage when hauling equipment. As I got older the pipe would have to get longer.

RE: Toy Hauler to a Truck Camper - Thoughts...***Updated***

I traded my 30' TT for a 19' CC Proline boat and then bought a PU TC. Later sold the PU and bought the Angler TC. The TC is perfect for the boy and I, or solo. The wife isn't camping much and I hated to drag the TT around for just the boy and I. Wife does not like the high steps to get into the TC, nor the lack of big leg room inside. I wanted to stay with a light enough TC that I didn't need big modification to carry. The Angler meets my non-off road RVing. Off road RVing is a whole animal in itself. TCs in VA sell in 1 week on Craigslist, TTs are for sale everywhere.

RE: 285 VS 265 tires

The Allison transmission did not like it when I went from 245 to 285. Had clearance, but was not able to shift into 5th gear under a heavy load. This was specifically noted on the Allison transmission site. Without a chip, I would not run the 285s. I could feel the power loss in acceleration even under no load. I don't know how folks have different experiences with their trucks. Next set of tires, I am going to 265s.
